FIT INDIA MOVEMENT – “FITNESS WEEK CELEBRATION” 13th-21st Nov. 2019
In an attempt to promote fitness among students, Salwan Public School, Ghaziabad, observed Fitness Week from 13th November to 21st November, 2019 as a part of Fit India Movement launched by PM Modi on 29th August, 2019. The prime objective of the initiative was to bring about a behavioural change in school children from spending "Passive Screen Time" to "Active Field Time".
The extensive six-day programme promoted by CBSE on the theme, ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ aimed at addressing both physical and mental fitness needs of children. As Uttar Pradesh partnered with Arunachal Pradesh in the programme, Indigenous games from Arunachal Pradesh, such as Cowrie (Shell Game), Archery, Hinsm Tuman, Khalai Latom, Mawpoin, Sitnup Budu Salgrika (Tug-of-war),etc included in the fitness regime of children. This move was an initiative to sustain Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the citizens of different states and Union Territories.
The meticulous designed activities included Yoga, Free hands exercises in Assembly for all, Mental Fitness Activities (Ex. Debates, Symposium, Lectures by Sports Psychologists), Poster making Competition for all Students on theme “Fit Body – Fit Mind – Fit Environment” and Physical Activities for all Students including Dance, Aerobics, Yoga, Martial Arts, Rope-Skipping, Gardening etc .
School has also begun to assess the fitness levels of students from the age of 5 years to 16 years using the Khelo India Mobile App that has been developed by the Sports Authority of India which helps to ascertain aspects such as flexibility, core strength and agility of students, the scores of which can then be used to identify students who have the prospect of taking up sport at the professional level.
